Twenty Two

doors are opening

key are turn, turning

open and no one close

lock it and no one knows

down the rabbit hole it goes

all we see and all we know

round and round the crowns of kings

falling like a child's things

see them coming now in pairs

two and two from in the air

do the people stop and stare

does the mouth of man declare

past the point of no return

forget all the world you've learned

peace of man will surely burn

wisdom now will have a turn

raining on the ranks unlearned

beauty rise while ashes fall

hail the fairest of them all

one last bride to sound the call

one last mile to find them all

light her lamps, she searches wide

full of mercy, has no pride

eyes with tears now find the lost

feet that run don't heed the cost

like the boat, come bring them all

two of each and two of all

right in line and through a door

all aboard for other shore

there's no turning back again

there's no way but straight ahead

once the flood is coming down

there's no pathway on the ground

nowhere left to hide or turn

nothing human minds can learn

only by the spirit's way

only by the words they say

only by the watch and pray

there's no hiding from that day

soon the clocks will cease to turn

falling stars will fade and burn

are you ready for the new

on the day of twenty two

one for me

and one for you

that is what he'll surely do

there will be enough for all

all come running to his call

to the shade of his great hand

to the feast not seen by man

only now reveals his plan

hidden for the twenty two

and this will be a sign that the time has come

the sign of twenty two will appear above the heavens

and no one will understand it

like Daniel's vision the kings will cry for an answer

but no one will tell them

and so they will fall

captured, astonished and destroyed

for who can know the mind of the Lord

and who has been his counselor

but to us has been given the spirit of the lord

as surely as a child was given unto us

and a son was born unto us

so will Christ be born in us

even as Paul wept for the churches

that Christ would be formed in them

so will the wisdom and purpose

of God be born unto us

within us and through us

as when a child is born the pain is forgot

even so we will wake to new life and

not feel any cost

the old passed away

we will live in his fullness of life

the darkness now gone we will shine

with his glorious light

the jar of our weakness all shattered

and nothing remains

except for the joy of his presence

that cannot be changed

and so at last darkness will see

let all marvel confused

let the hungry come eat and

the thirsty be cleansed from their bruise

let all who are weary come run to the fountain of life

let all who are filthy just leap and fall into this light

God With Us! like children the cry

will ring out round the throne

from all that were lost and

came tearfully stumbling home

awake and arise!

see, the glory now shines upon you

not the light on Elijah or stories of things we once knew

yet behold! I do a new thing

on the earth see it spring

things that holy old kings

only hoped they would see

in the songs they would sing

songs of you and of me

in the way it would be

on the day so true

on the day of twenty two
