If You Hunger It, He Will Come

Solemnly, with all severity I tell you, it is not a waste to hunger and wish, even for those things which you have idea how they could happen or even anything at all. For it is not those who work hardest, or study most, or sacrifice that are filled with righteousness, but those who hunger and thirst and cry out for it with sorrowful tears. Wisdom dwells right there with the humble as a close and personal friend would, and it is only the holy spirit of wisdom that can possibly lead someone to righteousness, and then to even greater righteousness. Didn't the pharisees and scribes wrok diligently, and cross over land and sea to make a single convert? But they know nothing, nothing at all of what hunger is. They were truly filled with greed and pride, and couldn't even understand such a thing.

If I give away all that I own and give my body to be burned but have not love, I am nothing.

Do not quench the Holy Spirit, which begins all things with the hunger and with dreams and visions, even though they seem utter nonsense and cannot be understood about the how and why and where of how such a strange thing could ever even begin to be brought to pass.

Even as Joseph's dream was absurd, and his parents were baffled and vexed by its foolishness, so that is how the Spirit of WIsdom first begins to bring greatest things to pass. With the utter folly of a dream, a wish. But the foolishness of God is so much wiser than all of human wisdom. And the weakness of God is power beyond the reach of man.

Do not scoff, do not quench, do not despise the day of small beginnings, even as a single mustard seed, as it is written, just a speck of a seed is what will become the whole kingdom of God which will reign and grow forever. Just a single speck easily blown away and lost in a moment by the smallest gust, like any other dust that might pass someone without them even knowing it was there.

Dreams, dreams, visions, and wishes. We hunger for what we do not know, we long with the pangs of a starving, half-dead man for things we have never even glimpsed for, things which seem so far beyond us that truly, we see, such hunger can never be filled because what could possibly be such a thing, that we cannot even imagine, but only hunger and perhaps feel from afar the glory and salvation and peace which we hunger to be brought to all mankind so that they can at last simply stagger up to the filled table and eat, for all to see at last plainly before them.

"To him who is able to do exceedingly more than all we can even ask or think - by the power that works within us"

And that working within us can never happen without first being a dream and vision and hunger inside someone, god does nothing without first showing it to his servants the prophets. Anything that God will do through us comes out of us, not as some external force pulling us along, but within our own hearts and personalities and little strange things that make us ourselves, by his making us that way from the foundation of the world. Out of within us flow the rivers of living water, but the flow has to start within us, us personally and like a rain that randomly falls from way up that we can't understand. And how else can the first spark of that thing God does in us begin, except by a dream? Maybe even a dream that we don't hardly understand or even see clearly, but yet we somehow know we need and want it so much. And only if we take that very, very first step of allowing the dream to be seen and wanted and longed for, can we ever move on to greater things of letting it out at all, even like David who said he would kill the Giant this day, even though he didn't know exactly how yet. And like Joseph who was so excited about his dream of the sun and wheat bowing, that he rushed and told it without thinking. Without beginning at that first step of dream and hunger and thirst, then anything we seem to be doing for God is only a patched-together monster that will return to the ugly dirt of mindless sweat and toil that it came from. A dream, a vision, a hope is the way God has always began to work through his people, his prophets, and if they quench that foolish tiny dream, then all the great and wise, beautiful things that we read after just don't happen at all, because they have killed the very first step out of fear and the wisdom of men.

Someone who scoffs at absurd, pointless dreams will never bring a single drop of God's will into the earth, because they have killed God's tree before it put out a single leaf.

Take the first step in foolishness and weakness, like Abraham who went out to a land he didn't even know where it was yet, but only had God's tiny whisper burning in his heart, promising him the children he so desperately needed.

It is the solemn promise, the vow of God who swore by his own throne, like someone putting up there car at a high-stakes poker game, that if we hunger we will be filled, and he alone will fill our eyes with the gladness of seeing things happen because he alone is the only one who possibly can.

It is not by might, it is not by power, but only by his spirit, he himself has said, and so we should not despise the dreams and visions he gives but let ourselves be consumed with the hunger and thirst and reaching for what he wants to happen, no matter whether we think and feel that that hunger will be satisfied. Only let the hunger rise up and ache within you and he has promised to personally bring you there, by his own personal wisdom and power, and no one else's.

Without a vision the people perish (wander and are exhausted and fall down) and Jesus saw that the people were like sheep without a shepherd, because their leaders didn't have vision or hope to show them.

We do not hve wisdom to get there, but hunger will bring it to us. We do not have strength to make it happen, but hunger will strengthen us from inside out. We do not have plans and knowledge, but hunger will make his word rain each single day. We do not have the people to help, but hunger will call to them and make them come our way like a magnet.

When the Spirit of God hears the real cry of hunger, like a helpless and foolish child crying for its mother, then he will surely sweep us up and dwell with us as only he can, because it is only, and only then, when we let ourselves be weak that we are truly strong.

We are indeed weak, even as the church of Revelation was weak and poor and naked and pathetic, like a drunken bum lying sleeping on the sidewalk at noon, and if only we let ourselves see and mourn over our real horrible state, our powerlessness to know what the future holds, our powerlessness to know what to do about it, our powerlessness to know how to change the things we long to see changed in the world and even our own world, then from our cry of anguish and horror will come a parched hunger, wanting a dream, wanting hope that we didn't know we even needed.

And Wisdom will answer with power and great glory, because Wisdom never bothers to dwell with anyone who isn't humble and dejected and lowly.

As if we awoke that dirty, staggering bum with a mirror, and he might shove it away and seek some brandy to forget what he sees out of no hope of not knowing how to somehow get out of his sorry state, we shouldn't turn away from things, because we are certainly not without hope or options.

Let us realize how much we need, even though the realization hurts because it makes us feel powerless and hopeless in the face of what we around us. Let us not quench our realization of how far we really are from what we could be, because only that realization will drive us to become it all at last.
