Could it be that our assumptions about things are actually a lot of times self-fulfilling prophecies that had no actual reason to have to be that way?
How many things do we assume are totally solid and immovable and not worth questioning, when it just ain't that way?
If we there was a complete, total list of all our wrong assumptions about anything, listed in alphabetical order, what would the world suddenly look to us like if someone showed us where to find the whole list, and we read all through it?
What would we actually see when looking around at the world, when going through the day, as different than how it was before we read the list and realized what we are wrong about?
These are questions to dream about, to poke at, to play with, to say what about this? What about that?
If Kobe Bryant is preparing for a game, he assumes that he will do at least a pretty good job. Even if it's not his best, and he's just not feeling it, he just assumes he's gonna make a few baskets and help the team quite a bit. He's not thinking about it, it's just the way it is. But another player in a minor league who isn't even a starter, is getting ready for a game and assumes that he won't do so great. It wouldn't be a huge surprise to him if he only made three baskets, he sort of hopes he does a lot better, but if he only does mediocre he's not shocked. Now if Kobe were to only make those three baskets, he would be totally shocked and not have expected it at all. His basic expectations are totally different.
So then, what do we assume is possible and impossible in life? How does being in the Kingdom of Heaven change these assumptions of just basic existence? These are things to just play around with, like drawing random funny pictures with some kids or something while waiting for a train.
